Law School, Week 1 - Done!

Well, the fact that I'm writing this now should tell you something - I survived the first week of law school. It's not like it was all that difficult, but it is nice to have it in the books and finally be getting into the swing of things. Orientation was Monday-Wednesday, and since the free shuttle to Tempe didn't start running until Thursday, I had to take the car and strand Janessa at the house all day. While lots of orientation was good - meeting people, getting acquainted with the law library, and hearing from some of the faculty - there was a lot of it that was useless. For example, I could have gone without being told not to eat in the computer lab, hearing others' personal (and irrelevant to me) questions about financial aid, etc. All in all it was helpful, although I'm glad it's done now.

So classes started on Thursday, and things are good so far. I'm sure it's mostly due to the fact that school hasn't REALLY started rolling yet, but it's not too bad. I'm getting my readings done, participating in class, and understanding things fairly well. I'm not understanding things perfectly, but I think I'm doing as well as could be expected - I'd be nervous if I thought I knew everything, because then I'd know I was missing stuff. The thing that makes me the most nervous, though, is that most all my classes only have one test at the end. At Wisconsin I'd study like I normally do, then adjust as needed after the first midterm. It's going to be different now, but I think I'll be ok. I'm making some friends, so forming study groups shouldn't be a big issue.

Other than starting law school, the other big development this week is the newest addition to our family. No, we didn't have a child, and no, we didn't adopt a pet. We just got a new computer - an Inspiron 15 from Dell. The one I've had since I got back from Albania was sort of starting to have some problems, so Janessa and I figured now was as good a time as any to get a new one. It's not super-fast, nor was it super-expensive, but we didn't want it to be. It runs fast, it's got a big screen, and it's not too heavy. It'll be good for the next three years for school.

Well, that's about it. Janessa continues looking for a job and we both continue to adjust to Arizona, but we do like it here. The people are nice and we've started to settle into a bit of a routine. Until next time - buh-bye!
