Yes We Can, and We Did

This week marks the end of an era. For the past 1.5 years I have been entertained by the many 2008 presidential campaigns. For me, it started while I was living in Washington D.C. and watching both Democratic and Republican primary debates. It continued during the winter months as the primaries began and candidates started dropping like flies. Shortly after the primaries, I moved from conservative Provo, Utah to the much more liberal Madison, Wisconsin. Life got interesting quickly in Madison, for the political candidates and for me.

Politics was discussed quite a bit during those days and Madison had an interesting mix of ideals. One of those with interesting ideals was a boy I met at institute. One night about a week into our friendship, we talked about several political "hot topics" and discussed/defended our opinions. I learned a lot about Brett through those conversations and it wasn't hard for me to figure out who his candidate of choice was. (It also helped that he bragged about shaking Obama's hand at a rally while working as an intern for the DNC of Wisconsin).

So throughout the continuing weeks and months, we followed the election very closely. The night before the big day we made predictions on the voting margins in several of the "swing states," and then Tuesday night we watched the results roll in and the concession and acceptance speeches. Yes, I know, very romantic. What happens when you put these two political science majors together? Love.

Now it is over. The elections, not the love. Luckily, I think we will have plenty of news about the transition to keep the political junkies in us happy.

On a more serious note, this week also marks the end of another era. This era is already sorely missed by yours truly. You see, Brett learned a new word. A very bad two-letter word--NO. Perhaps you can't understand my horror. What we were discussing is irrelevent; the issue is that Brett told me, his future wife, "no." Houston we have a problem...

But where could he have learned such a terrible word?

Make sure to compile a book of possible ways that this could have been prevented so that I can use it for my future relationships.

I don't know where he learned it; probably from the corrupted TV because it definitely wasn't learned from me.

Nip it in the bud now my dear, trust me! Or put hot sauce in his mouth, that is what we do when we hear words we don't like!
