Wake Up Call

37 weeks started out rather eventful for us. We went to doctor for a scheduled appointment and ultrasound because last week the doctor thought the baby might be a little small. Not sure what the doctor was thinking because from the ultrasound they estimated his weight to be just over 7 lbs. Most of that from his huge "George" head; I'm not looking forward to that during labor. We happened to mention to the tech that we hadn't gotten a 3D picture of the baby because he had never been cooperative. After moving around for better angles, we got pictures of his face! The tech had a hard time getting a full frontal picture so on one picture she put sunglasses on him, which I love. My favorite is the sunglasses picture with him smiling.

And our fun did not end there. We saw the doctor and the nurse and the doctor both listened to his heartbeat because the ultrasound showed that it was 176; his heartbeat had not been above 150 for any of our visits. The nurse got 160 and the doctor got 170, so the doctor wanted to do a Non-Stress Test (NST). So I had to go to the Labor and Delivery department of the hospital and get hooked up on the fetal monitor so they could track his heartbeat--loads of fun. After about 1.5 hours of Carter's heartbeat being under 150 I got another ultrasound and Carter picked that time to start dancing and rolling around. The tech took the heartbeat and got 170. I couldn't win. But they decided two hours of the heartbeat under 150 was a better indication of his health than a 10 minute ultrasound. We got to leave and everything seems good, so no worries.

On the walk over to the L&D department I was freaking out inside. I'm totally not ready to be a mom and definitely not ready to go through birth. Laying in a hospital bed for two hours didn't help a whole lot, but over the last few days I have come closer to accepting that any day now this kid could come. I'm packing my "go" bag tonight just in case.
