In case you haven't noticed, I really haven't posted much lately...and by not posted much, I mean I haven't posted at all. Basically what has happened is that law school has really gotten going lately, so I've been uber-busy. Lame excuse, maybe, but that's the way it's going to be until May 2012...
Anyways, school is going good. I have a really interesting class and some pretty cool professors, so I'm liking it a lot (well, all of it except for Contracts, that is). All the 1Ls have their classes set for them, so this semester I'm taking 15 credits - Contracts, Civil Procedure, Torts, Legal Method, and a special "Dean's Session" run by (you guessed it) the Dean. Before coming to school I thought about being a Contract lawyer, but learning about it has totally turned me off to that field...If I had to spend my days working with the UCC, I think I'd shoot myself....
By far my most interesting class is Civil Procedure. The subject matter is pretty cool, but the most interesting part is the guy teaching it, Prof. Berch (click here to watch a YouTube video of him being quite CALM). He's a former US Attorney who's been teaching at the ASU law school ever since it opened 40 years ago. He also divorced his wife in 1979 to be able to marry one of his students in 1980 (or 1981, not quite sure). That student is now a justice on the Arizona Supreme Court. It's impossible to fall asleep in his class, just because of how crazy he is. He'll somehow manage to drop a few F-bombs per class, talk about his sex-life, and explain the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure all within 115 minutes. As out-there as he is, though, I am learning from him. He's just one of those crazy teachers that you really have to experience to appreciate.
Other than my classes, things are going well. I have this next week off for fall break, and I'm looking forward to being able to sleep in and get caught up on some of my readings. Last week was sort of tough because I had two midterms on Friday, so I concentrated on those instead of my classes the last few days of the week. Janessa's going to be putting me to work running errands, but I am looking forward to being able to spend more time than normal with her.
This last Friday was fun, as we went to a high school football game in the area. It was a nationally ranked team (how they do national high-school rankings I don't know, but they do) with several Division 1 commits, so the football was good even though they're in high school. We left after the third quarter when it was 35-0 and they ended up beating their previously-unbeaten opponents 45-2.
Although it's a new experience, Janessa is liking her new job. She's learning all about accounting (which I'm sure must be SUPER-exciting...) and is doing a good job charming people into giving her company the documents they need. She seems to be getting along well with the people at work, and it's bringing home the money, so it'll be a good spot for her for the next few years.
Oh, and for all you people not in AZ or other parts of the SW - the weather's been amazing here, and it's supposed to be in the mid 80s - mid 90s next week....
