Rise and Shout...
Technically it is Brett's turn to write this week's blog, but I stole it from him so I could give a shout out to the Cougars. I got a little college football warm-up on Thursday watching Boise State and following the Utah game on-line. I figured as long as no BYU player took a swing at someone we couldn't do worse than Oregon.
Finally Saturday afternoon came and I was able to watch my Cougars. I'm not gonna lie, I prepped myself well. In all my spare time I read lots of articles on ESPN about Oklahoma and lots of articles from the Deseret News on BYU. Like most BYU fans I hoped we played well and didn't embarrass ourselves, but I didn't truly think we could actually win. That is, until the game actually started.
I was very impressed with our team. I was frustrated by our team. We made some serious mistakes and horrible turnovers. If we had lost, it would have been because we beat ourselves, not because Oklahoma outplayed us.
I want to give a few shout outs--
The whole BYU defense--amazing!! Before the game I didn't hear much about the new Defensive Coordinator, but he does good work.
Max Hall--Thank you so much for not repeating last year's heartbreakers and choking.
Sam Bradford--I really do hope the injury isn't too serious, and he is back in a few weeks. It is sad to see a good athlete get injured. And we need Oklahoma to have a good season to make this win even more impressive later in the season. :)
Chris--The handlebar mustache works miracles.
All in all, the first week of college football was great. I wish I could have celebrated in Provo with other BYU students, but I settled with jumping up and down in my living room with one of Brett's friends from law school who went to BYU. Brett sat on the couch and calmly watched the game, wondering if he married a crazy woman. (I think that answer is obvious!)
The Cougars are out...
