The Story of Baby Carter (so far)

Somehow Brett and I managed to keep the pregnancy just between us and then family and few others until recently. I thought I would share a little more of the timeline, complete with pictures and ridiculous commentary.

Week of March 28
I am freaking out because I think there is a good chance I am pregnant. I tell Brett halfway through the week because I can't hold it inside any longer. Then we both freak out and wait until Saturday, April 3.

Saturday, April 3
I take two pregnancy tests early in the morning because we told ourselves we would wait until Saturday. Both tests are positive. Then we listen to talks all weekend about parenting. I am freaking out and Brett is excited. (common theme)

Friday, April 9
Doctor confirms pregnancy and proceeds to ask all sorts of questions that make me think I should have paid more attention to Brett's family's medical history before getting married. More freak out.

Sunday, April 18
Picture at 8 weeks
Monday, April 19
My birthday. I feel about as good as I look in the picture. I am blowing out the fake candles on my birthday cake.
Friday, April 23
First ultrasound. We see a peanut sized image and hear the heartbeat, which is one of the coolest experiences of my life to date.

Sunday, May 9
We tell our immediate family that we are pregnant. My mom thinks it is some cruel Mother's Day joke until I repeatedly assure her on the phone that it was not a joke. She starts crying.

Sunday, June 20
Picture at 16 weeks. I feel pretty good now, except for a strange aversion to meat. The sweats are the best item in my wardrobe. If I could I would wear them to work.
Monday, July 5
Picture at 18 weeks. Little bump. Love the sweats.
Friday, July 16
Baby is a boy! For some reason we both thought girl, but all the signs pointed to a boy. Sign 1: One of the first ultrasounds where we could see more than a dot on the screen, baby was lying on his back with his legs half crossed. Brett does that all the time. Sign 2: Baby is a mover and likes to kick. I believe this is a result from developing during the World Cup. Sign 3: My three brothers and Brett's three brothers. Girls are a rare occurrence.

I heard the greatest words to come from an OB during a pregnancy, "You can afford to gain some weight." Hence the afternoon snack. For the record I only ate about half the ice cream.
When we found out baby was a boy we bought Carter's first outfits.Sunday July 18

Pushing out as much as I can.

We are so excited for this little boy!
